Ways & Means Report - February 2010

The Ways and Means Committee would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year.  We're really happy to see that so many of you have had your fill of turkey for awhile and decided to join us for the first fish fry of the new year.  Another success thanks to you the members, and the families, and the friends, and the neighbors, and well, you get the picture.  Now it's time to start thinking about everyone that you haven't told yet, and get them in here on the second Friday in February for the next Fish Fry.  Who knows, they just might enjoy themselves so much that they will want to tell their friends about us.  Maybe they might even be interested in becoming a member of our Branch.

We are also planning on having another "Parking Lot/Trunk Sale in the late Spring, (maybe around the end of May) so start setting aside the treasures that you no longer want or need.  Who knows just how much someone else will pay you for it.  We have a lot of fun and we make some money doing it!  These are the things that help keep our Branch as strong as it is.  We'll give you more info closer to the time.

If you have any other suggestions for things that you would like to see happening, please let us know.  No idea is a bad idea, any idea will definitely be considered.

Finally, don't forget to put your Loonie in an envelope with you name on it and drop it in the box near the entrance to the washrooms.  There are always two great selections of meat to be won every Saturday at 4:30 following the Presidents Meat Draw at 3pm.

Thanks for everything that you do to make everything that we do such a success.

Ways and Means Report - August 2009

Welcome back from summer.  We’ve missed some of you but are always glad to see our Legion friends around the Branch.

The fish fries continue to do well over the summer and will be continuing on the second Friday of the month throughout the winter.  The Family BBQs have also been very well attended and we have just one left before we call it a season.  It will be held on Sunday, September 20th.  Tell your friends, tell your family, and tell everyone what a great meal we put on at a fabulous price.  We have also decided as many of you k now to add hotdogs to the menu for the kids.  They seem to be going over well also.

If there is something else that you would like to see happening at the Legion please speak to any one of your Ways & Means Committee members or leave a note in the suggestion box outside of the office.

The regular Saturday afternoon meat draws continue.  Remember that you don’t have to be there to win and you don’t have to be a member to enter this draw.  We’re more than happy to give you a call and let you know that you have won a wonderful cut of meat.  The cost is still only a loonie and you still have two chances to win.  Put your name on an envelope (phone number, if you can’t be there),  drop a loonie in the envelope and drop it in the box.

Remember that this is the committee that raises most of the money for things that need to be done around the Branch and every Member of the Branch benefits from the things that you do to support us.  Thanks for all your support and ideas and your help.  We appreciate each and every one of you.  Hope to see you around the Branch.

Ways & Means - April 2009

The weather is warming, and thoughts of the outdoors will soon be with us.  We are planning to have Family BBq's again this summer.  Please keep the following dates in mind and come out and join us for a great meal at a great price.  We will still be featuring our famous steak, hamburger and chicken dinners complete with all the fixin's.  The dates have been set with the first one being on Father's Day (June 21st).  Give Dad a break and bring the entire family including the kids out to the Branch for some food and fun.

The other dates for the BBq's are:  July 19, August 23, and September 20.  Everyone is welcome.  These events like the Fish Fry's, are open to the public, including children.  The Branch will be open at 2pm so that you can enjoy a chilled beverage and share some laughs with friends and comrades before dinner.  Dinner is served from 4-6pm.

The Fish Fry's will also be continuing throughout the Summer as usual on the second Friday of the month.  Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your neighbours.  As always, we think "The more, the merrier!".  We serve the BEST Fish & Chip Dinner in the area.

The Saturday 4:30 Meat Draw also continues all summer long, so don't forget to put your Loonie in an envelope, with your name on it (and phone number if you can't be there), and drop it in the box near the entrance to the washrooms.  You have a great chance to win a fabulous cut of meat.

If you can think of anything else that you would like to see happening at the Branch, we are open to suggestions. If you would like to help with something that is already happening at the Branch, we'd be 'REALLY HAPPY' to hear from you. You can see any member of Your Executive, or for those of you that don't know, there is a suggestion box just outside of the office.

We hope to see you around the Branch.

Ways & Means - February 2009

We would like to thank everyone for spreading the word about our Fish Fry's.  They are continuing to grow each month.  Even when the weather is not great outside, everyone still continues to trek through it to enjoy a great meal.  And now for the bad news - we will not be having a Fish Fry in April, but will be back as usual in May.

The Easter Ham & Turkey Roll will be held on Friday, April 3rd.   The draws start at 8pm, and there will be spins on the wheel to follow.  Tickets are $5.00 each and are good for 40 chances to win either a ham or a turkey.  Your ticket is returned to the drum so you may win more than once.  You don't have to be at the draw to win, we will call you to let yon know what you have won and you can stop by the Branch to pick it up.  You can increase your chances of winning by coming out to the Branch and taking your chance on the spins of the wheel that follow the main draw.  We hope to see you there.

Please keep in mind that the Fish Fry's will be continuing throughout the summer months and we will once again be having the Family BBQ's beginning in June.  All of these events are open to the public and children are welcome to attend.

It's been a long cold winter, and we've missed seeing some of your smiling faces.  Now that the weather is beginning to look a little better we hope to see more of you, not just at the events, but around the Branch in general.  There's always something going on, so stop by, enjoy a chilled beverage, and get caught up with some friends and comrades.

The Saturday Afternoon Meat Draw is also still going on weekly.  Put your Looney in an envelope with your name in it, (and phone number if you can't be there), and drop it in the box near the entrance to the washrooms.  You can't get a better cut of meat for a buck anywhere.  Remember that you don't have to be there to win, and you have two chances for a buck.  The cuts of meat are always great and you can't beat the price.   We hope to see you around the Branch.

 Ways & Means - December 2008

Things around the Branch are picking up now that the colder winter weather is starting to settle in.  The Fish Fries continue to be a great success and we appreciate all of the support from the members, and their friends and families.  Please remember that the

Fish Fries are always on the 2nd Friday of the month and are open to everyone.

Please tell everyone that you know what a great meal you get at a great price.  We are only too happy to add another 50 or 60 meals to the night.  We wouldn’t want anyone to go away hungry.

The Saturday Afternoon meat draw is still a hit around the Branch.  Remember to put your Loonie in the box on the bar near the entrance to the washrooms.  There are two chances to win a great piece of meat.  Al always finds wonderful surprises.  If you can’t be at the Branch on Saturday at 4:30 write your name on the envelope as well as your phone number and we’ll call you when you win.

As you may or may not know, Ways & Means is a major contributor to the support of the Branch.  All of the money that our committee raises helps to pay for things that need to be done around the Branch.  If you have any suggestions that might help us raise even more necessary cash please let us know.  You can see us at the Branch, or can leave us a note in the suggestion box near the entrance to the bar, or with the bar staff and it will be forwarded to us.

Thanks again for all of your support, and we hope to see you often in the Branch.  Remember to bring your friends and family in for a chilled beverage and hopefully you might be able to help us increase our membership.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

 Ways & Means - October 2008

The Fish Fries are a huge success each month, and they seem to continue to grow in popularity. This is a very good thing for the Branch, as the Ways and Means Committee is a major source of income for the Branch. We appreciate each and every order and try our best to get them out of the kitchen as quickly as we possibly can. So this means we are still looking to increase our business to the extent that there are more bums than seats. Remember to tell your friends and neighbours about the great food and the great prices, as well as the chilled beverages and camaraderie that happen here on the second Friday of each month. Just a reminder that you do not have to be a member to enjoy and children are welcome. Once again, remember this is your Branch and it is only as successful as you make it, so please bring your friends and come on out and have some fun. If you have any ideas to make the Branch more fun or entertaining, please let us know.

 Ways & Means - August 2008

Welcome back from the summer that didn’t really happen.  Things at the Branch will be back in full swing soon and we are looking forward to seeing all of the faces that we have missed throughout the summer.  The Fish Frys were very successful over the summer, and of course they will continue on the 2nd Friday of each month.  We really look forward to seeing you there with your friends and family.  Remember that you do not have to be a member to attend the Fish Frys and children are welcome.

We have one more BBQ this season and it is scheduled for Sunday, 21st September from 4 until 6pm.  The Branch is open at 2:30pm so that you can get a chilled beverage before dinner.  The menu and prices can’t be beat, and no one goes away hungry.  We hope to see everyone rain or shine, the meals go on.

Al Blackburn has been running the Saturday afternoon meat draws at 4:30pm every week and we just want to remind you to drop your loonie in an envelope and drop it in the box on the left hand side of the bar.  Remember that you don’t have to be there to win.  Just put your name and phone number on the envelope and wait for the call.  Where else can you get such a great cut of meat for a buck?

The Thanksgiving Turkey Roll is also coming up.  It is scheduled for Friday, 3rd October at 8pm.  Tickets will be on sale in early September from members of the Branch, and at the bar.  The cost is still $5.00 per ticket for 40 chances to win a ham or turkey

Youth Dart Registration is on Wednesday, 10th September, starting at 6:30pm and youth between the ages of 10 and 18 are welcome to come and sign up.  We play Wednesday nights from 6:30 until 8pm upstairs at the Branch.  This is a fun mixed league for the kids.  Let your children, grandchildren and the neighbor’s kids know about this.  The more the noisier.  We have a lot of fun.

There are a lot of things coming up in the future, so watch for the books to be returning to the tables in the very near future.

If there is anything that you would like to see advertised (free of charge, of course) in the book, feel free to drop me a note, or call the Branch and leave a message, or see me at the Branch, and I will be happy to do what I can for you.

Once again, a big Thank You for supporting all of the functions at the Branch.  It’s you that makes Your Branch so successful.

Welcome back everyone hopes you had a greate summer.  The fish Frys and BBQs have been going very well this summer and we hope to see everyone supporting them even more now that Summar is drawing to a close.  Please watch the books on the tables and the board in the branch for dates and times of upcoming events.  We have one more BBQ on September 23rd.  The meals are great and you can't beat the price.  Steak dinner $8, chicken breast dinner $6 and a hamburger dinner $5.  We cook from 4-6pm but the branch opens at 2.30pm so you can enjoy a cold beverage before supper.

New time for Fish Frys

Starting with the September Fish Fry we will start serving at 4.30pm instead of 5pm.  The turnout at this event has made us realize we need to increase the serving time due to lack of seating.  My thanks to everyone - volunteers and customers who have helped make this such a big success.  The prices remain the same, the food is still fabulous and the atmosphere is wonderful.  Fish and Chips remain at $7 and Chicken Fingers and Chips $5.  We don't think you will find a better deal anywhere!

Al's 4.30pm meat draw is still going on, so don't forget to put your loonie in an envelope with your name on it (and your phone number if you can't be there) in the box near the washroom entrance.  Remember you don't have to be there to win and Al always find great meat for the drawers.
