The Legions and Ladies Auxiliary Honours and Award and Veteran’s Luncheon was held on Sunday, 7th April 7, 2024.  It was very well attended.

Moments of note include:

Two life memberships were presented.  Jim Byron, Ordinary member of 27 years, and Doug Rivers, Associate member of 14 years.  Thank you for your continued hard work to support this Legion in the day-to-day challenges.  Your commitment is greatly appreciated.

A Friendship Award was presented to Bill Grisdale as a community partner.  Bill has supported the Legions through donations of costly equipment and services.  Bill has been a true friend to this Legion.

Honours and Awards Pin recipients and pictures will be posted on our website.

Honours and Awards Report - May 2023

The Veteran’s Dinner, Honours and Awards and Ladies Auxiliary Birthday Banquet for all of Branch 36 Branch 36 Dundas Legion was held 26th March, 2023.

The event went off very well, all pins and awards were presented including an award to Past President Doug Rivers presented by Mike Alkerton.  Pins were presented by Charley Parsons, Doug Rivers, Janice Manciini and assisted by Shirley Beaton.  There were just over 100 tickets sold.  I was pleased to introduce 14 Veterans who were present.  Of the 14 Veterans, 3 were at or above 100 years of age.  Rick Valois and Jim Byron, both presented special pins and gifts to all Veterans present.

All Ladies Auxiliary pins were presented by Sue Sklepowicz.  The Branch 36 Ladies Auxiliary are definitely hard workers judging by the $3,000.00 cheque presented by the Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 36 President Janice Mancini.

Executives from fellow Zone Branches and Zone Ladies Auxiliaries were also present as guests,

Paul Wright photographed all award and pin recipients, and stayed after to take pictures of those who wanted them taken.

Not to be overlooked the Branch 36 Colour Party, the only one in our Zone, did their usual fine job with the presentation and movement of Colours.

My thanks to all the Committee members, who through their hard work enabled this event to take place (Janice M., Peter H., Peter W., Charlie P., Sue K., Barb S. and House, Office, Membership).

Honours and Awards Report - November 2022

Your Honours and Awards Committee works hard to prepare for our yearly celebrations - Veterans and Honours and Awards - H & A pins and awards to the many years of service of our serving members.  These events will be fully advertised to all members in the coming weeks.

Your Honours and Awards Committee works hard to prepare for yearly celebrations - Veterans and Honours and Awards H & A pins and awards for the many years of service of serving members.  These events will be fully advertised to all members in the coming weeks.

One of the most needed items when it comes to our contacting you, is your telephone number, be it cell or landline.  If we have no phone number, we cannot contact you.  We ask you here - to inform the Branch office of your number - a greatly needed piece of information.

We will then be able to reach you and advise you of all upcoming events whenever they occur.

Thank you, fellow members, for your help.

Honours and Awards Report - August 2022

From the many comments and congratulation received, we have

to assume we had a very successful Honours and Awards

Luncheon May 29th, 2022 - which covered the years 2021

and 2022.

Yes, there were some small problems, but they have been

addressed and resolved.

We will settle in for the summer awaiting our September

executive meeting, where we will discuss future Veterans

Christmas dinners for our Ordinary members, and a 2023

Honours and Awards Luncheon.  It's noteworthy that some

changes were made this year to the historic patterns of set

up and the meal, and were very well accepted.

Our biggest problem, planning the Honours and Awards event

is contacting members.  Some Affiliate, Associate, Ordinary

members have not updated Branch 36's Membership telephone

records, and that makes it extremely difficult to contact you. On

behalf of all in the committee, we ask that you make certain your

membership record has a current phone number including any

Cell phone number and your email address.  The Legion does

not provide phone numbers to any outside organization so your

phone number is safe with us.  We need to be able to contact you

regarding events like the Honours and Awards.

Please help get your number corrected for our files.

Thank you

Alan Boyle - 1st Vice president and Honours and Awards Chair

Honours and Awards Report - May 2022

As of now we are working hard to be able to present a Honours and Awards
Luncheon on 29th May, 2022 to get us all up to date - thanks to Covid we missed 2021.

This upcoming event will take care of that, service pins and other awards for the missed year and this year will be presented.

If you are due, you will be receiving a call soon from the Committee inviting you to the event.

Although it's been a very long time since we all were together, your Honours and Awards committee are still very interested in years of service pins and Awards given to members to Dundas Valley City Branch 36.

As we do care, we have prepared a list of members, as of June 2021, Ordinary, Associate and Affiliate who are due their updated "years of service" pins.  The problem we have is - with the closure forced on us, for safety, by our several layers of Government due to COVID-19, we have been unable to host the traditional Honours and Awards luncheon, which was the way we usually got Service Pins and Awards to those who deserve them.

The Branch executive, like you, hope and trust there soon will be relaxation to the "closure" rules and we can then re-open the Branch, at which time years of Service Pins can be made available to you through the Clubroom Bar.  We will keep you informed.

Honours and Awards Report - February 2021

The 2021 Honours and Awards Ceremony was planned for Sunday March 7th.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are not allowed to host events with large numbers of

people so Branch 36 regrets we have had to cancel the 2021 Honours and Awards Banquet.

Our deepest apologies to all.

Our plan for the future will be to look at March 2022 and put into place a ceremony that will

cover all Branch 36 members due their years of Service pins for the two years 2020 and 2021.

It’s with deep sorrow that both the Veterans Christmas Dinner and the Honours and Awards

banquet – special events both for Branch 36, had to be cancelled.

Provincial and Municipal rules have been set up to protect your health and stop the COVID-19 pandemic.

The rules to fight COVID-19 limit the total number of people allowed in a building, require social distancing and also require the wearing of masks.

With your health, and these rules in mind, Branch 36 has had to cancel the 2020 Veteran’s Christmas Dinner in December.

Our deepest apologies to you.  We hope that next year we will again be able to honour you, our Branch 36 Veterans at Christmas.

Honours and Awards - May 2008

Comrades the Honours and Awards Banquet was held on March 15th.  The turnout for Affiliate members was disappointing;  however, there was a good turnout for members receiving their Associate and Ordinary pins.  Frank Westoby received his 60 year pin.  Frank was Branch President from 1949-1950.  Frank also gave us a short history lesson about the Branch, which made for very interesting listening, Thank you Frank.

For our Legionnaire of the year award we did something a little different.  For the first time the award was given posthumously and the recipient was Glen Hannah.  Glenn was a hard working and dedicated member of the branch for 33 years.  He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, and I am sure all those members who have been sick, and had visits from Glenn over many years will miss him.  His wife Mary received the award on his behalf, a very emotional moment for all.

There were presentations of appreciation from the Branch and the Poppy Committee.

There also was a special presentation from the Colour Commander for the retirement of Virginia  Lawrence from the Colour Party.   Virginia was a Colour Party member for 18 years and we wish her the best.

Last, but not least, I would like to thank all those who volunteered their time, and helped make this occasion a success.  I could not have done it without them.

Yours in comradeship - Fay Kielty.

Honours and Awards - April 2008

As you know our Honours and Awards night was held March 15th.

The turn-out of Affiliate members for their pins was disappointing;  however, a number of Associate and Ordinary members turned up for their 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 year pins.

Frank Westoby received his 60 year pin.

Frank was Branch 36 President from 1949 to 1950 and he gave us a quick history lesson on the history of the Branch.  It was both interesting and amusing listening to him.

For our Legionnaire of the Year this year we did something different.  We decided to make the award to a most deserving, posthumous recipient - Glen Hannah.

Glen was a hard working and dedicated member for 33 years and we shall miss him at the Branch.

His wife Mary was presented with the award on Glen's behalf.

I would like to thank all those who helped to make the evening a success.  I could not have done it without your help and support.

Honours and Awards

The time of year when we honour members who have given their time and expertise to better the branch is fast approaching.

There are many people, members and non-members, who work hard to make the branch a place you can be proud, and a place where you can go and have a good time, be it dancing, karaoke, or playing sports.

If you know of anyone who you think deserves recognition please let me know as soon as possible.

There are a number of awards that can be given out so don't hesitate to contact me.
