Honours & Awards Report - April 2009 Our Honours and Awards Banquet was a sell-out event, with over 160 people in attendance. It was also a celebration of our Branch's Ladies Auxiliary's 64th birthday and many Ladies Auxiliary members were in attendence and were honoured for services to the Ladies Auxiliary and the Legion. Many Legion comrades were honoured with awards for their outstanding service to the Branch, and years of service pins were awarded to other long-standing comrades. Jim Sherring was awarded the Legionnaire of the Year award for his many years of service and work for the Legion. Thanks to everyone who helped with the evening, especially Sandy Jordan, for the fabulous meal enjoyed by all.

Honours & Awards Report - February 2009 The time of year when we honour members who have given their time and expertise to better the Branch is fast approaching. There
are many people – members and non-members, who work hard to make the
Branch a place we can be proud of, and a place where you can go and
have a good time, be it dancing, karaoke or playing sports. So please, if you know of anyone who deserves recognition let me know as soon as possible. There are a number of awards that can be given out so don’t hesitate to contact me. Suzi Mellen - Honours and Awards Chair

Honours & Awards Report - October 2008
The Honours and Awards Banquet is March 7th, 2009; however, it is important that we receive nominations for awards as soon as possible as some nominations take months to process.
If you know someone you think deserves an award (someone who you feel has worked above and beyond what is expected of every member) please contact me as soon as possible. You can put your nomination in the box at the entrance to the Legion offices. Please include your name, the nominee’s name and the reason for the nomination.
Here are a few categories: Certificate of Appreciation, Certificate of Merit, Life Membership and Legionnaire of the Year. If you have any questions about these awards please contact me. Also, please keep March 7th, 2009 open and plan to attend this terrific evening with a superb dinner and dance. Tickets will be on sale in 2009.

Honours and Awards - May 2008
Comrades the Honours and Awards Banquet was held on March 15th. The turnout for Affiliate members was disappointing; however, there was a good turnout for members receiving their Associate and Ordinary pins. Frank Westoby received his 60 year pin. Frank was Branch President from 1949-1950. Frank also gave us a short history lesson about the Branch, which made for very interesting listening, Thank you Frank.
For our Legionnaire of the year award we did something a little different. For the first time the award was given posthumously and the recipient was Glen Hannah. Glenn was a hard working and dedicated member of the branch for 33 years. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, and I am sure all those members who have been sick, and had visits from Glenn over many years will miss him. His wife Mary received the award on his behalf, a very emotional moment for all.
There were presentations of appreciation from the Branch and the Poppy Committee.
There also was a special presentation from the Colour Commander for the retirement of Virginia Lawrence from the Colour Party. Virginia was a Colour Party member for 18 years and we wish her the best.
Last, but not least, I would like to thank all those who volunteered their time, and helped make this occasion a success. I could not have done it without them.
Yours in comradeship - Fay Kielty.
Honours and Awards - April 2008
As you know our Honours and Awards night was held March 15th.
The turn-out of Affiliate members for their pins was disappointing; however, a number of Associate and Ordinary members turned up for their 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 year pins.
Frank Westoby received his 60 year pin.
Frank was Branch 36 President from 1949 to 1950 and he gave us a quick history lesson on the history of the Branch. It was both interesting and amusing listening to him.
For our Legionnaire of the Year this year we did something different. We decided to make the award to a most deserving, posthumous recipient - Glen Hannah.
Glen was a hard working and dedicated member for 33 years and we shall miss him at the Branch.
His wife Mary was presented with the award on Glen's behalf.
I would like to thank all those who helped to make the evening a success. I could not have done it without your help and support.
