ZONE B6 MEETING MINUTES
A Zone Meeting was
held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Branch 60 in Burlington.
Opening Ceremonies were conducted by Branch 60 President, Comrade Matt MacPherson.
The Meeting opened at 7:35 p.m.
The Roll was called. All Branches were represented.
MOTION to deviate from the Agenda was passed.
MINUTES:
The Minutes were adopted as circulated.
CORRESPONDENCE
Robyn Settler will retire after a dedicated career at Ontario Command. Applications for her replacement are being accepted.
ZONE COMMANDERS REPORT
It was with great sadness that Comrade Zone Commander John Murphy announced the untimely passing of Comrade Dawn Lewis, President of Dundas Branch 36. She will be greatly missed by all her Comrades at the Branch and Zone. Her contributions to the Branch were legion.
Comrade Zone Commander John Murphy stated that he was disappointed at the attendance at the Fall Convention and expected better attendance at the Spring Convention in Niagara Falls. He asked for a show of hands to see who was planning to attend.
District Council Meting will be at Branch 551 and the Convention at Branch 163.

POPPY
Comrade Robert Watson reported that it has been a very cold winter and he realized that Branch Poppy Chairs had extra work helping Veterans in their homes.
Please reach out to the Veterans in long term care facilities as they have needs from time to time. Comforts during the Christmas season are always welcome.
Comrade Robert would like to thank the Branch Presidents for working with the Poppy Committees to ensure that the needs of Veterans and their families are cared for.
All the Poppy Trust Fund records have been sent to Command and no complaints have come back to Comrade Watson. Thank you to the Poppy Committee Chairmen for that!
We are looking for a “Poppy” person whom Comrade Watson could train to fill the Chairman’s role. (Comrade Robert lives in Fonthill now so it is onerous for him.) You would not have to go in cold—Comrade Robert is a great teacher and would be a fantastic support. Contact him or Comrade John Murphy or Comrade Jim Chesterfield.
MEMBERSHIP
Comrade Joyce Brown stated that as of the end of February our Zone had 73.79% of members who have paid their 2014 dues. Lets aim for 100%!
PRO
Comrade Peter Whittaker reported: that he added a new page showing Legion’s 2014 Provincial Literary and Poster Winners.
Comrade Peter updated the Zone Web Site
He requested that we review the web page and confirm that the information for your Branch is accurate.
He can only work with what your Branches give him!!!

23 guests were present for the Meeting.
SPORTS
Comrade Garry Spears reported that The winning mixed darts team was from Waterdown. Mixed Double Dats team was from Waterdown.
This concludes the Zone Sport Events for this year.
TRAINING AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Comrade Don Hubbs stated that the Presidents should be encouraging Branch members to come to Zone Meetings. There should be as many members present as the quota for each Branch states as of December 31, 2013. This will ensure that the membership’s wishes are expressed.
YOUTH EDUCATION
Comrade Jackie Ralston stated that the District Public Speaking Contest will be held on April 12 at Branch 163. Registration is 9:30a.m.
The Area Competition will be held in Milton on April 26.
L.A. REPORT
Comrade Jackie Ralston stated that the Zone L.A. Convention will be held on Wednesday. April 9. It is an Election night.
Comrade Jackie noted that 90% of the Ladies Auxiliary members are over 60 and they are finding it difficult to fulfill all the jobs they used to do. However they are willing to do what they can and ask only that they be appreciated for their efforts and not taken for granted.
BURSARIES
Applications for this year’s bursaries must be in by the 3rd week in March. The Meeting to review the applications is to be held April 12.

Comrade Wilma Becker announced that $62.00 was raised.

GENERAL AND NEW BUSINESS
Discussion about the price of air fares to Edmonton for the Dominion Convention was held. Advice: Shop around.
Discussion arose concerning the Liquor inspectors and what they expect (and don’t).
Make sure your sign depicting the young pregnant girl is prominent. (We have had it around for so many years now that if it isn’t posted nobody would miss it!)
Be careful what you raffle!
