A Zone Meeting was held on Monday, March 25, 2013. The Opening Ceremonies were conducted by the Branch 163 President, Comrade Murray Brown.

Comrade Zone Commander Jim Chesterfield introduced the election team—District Commander—Dave Smith, Deputy District Commanders—Tom Astley and Ted Kutiesieski.

The Meeting opened at 7:40p.m.

The Roll was called. All Branches were present.

CORRESPONDENCE

Dominion Command—a new Royal Canadian Legion Claim Form for use when referring Veterans to your Command Service Officer for assistance with their Veterans Affairs Canada disability benefits and services. It is on the Legion website under “Downloads at Forms”---  www.legion.ca .

It is the 200^th anniversary of the Battle of Stoney Creek (one of the most important Battles of the War of 1812.

There will be a Service and Parade to be held on Friday, May 31—Parade: 7:00p.m. from Branch 622 to Battlefield Cemetery. Service 7:30p.m. Reception to follow at Branch 622.

Ontario Command—Thank you t5o all for contributing to the Charitable Foundation. It must be noted that with low interest rates the Foundation has not been able to grow the fund through investment as easily as in the past. Bottom line—please keep this in mind and make your donations as generous as you can.

Minutes of the Administrative Committee are available if you wish from your Branch President or the Zone Secretary.

ZONE COMMANDER’S REPORT

1.      We are complete our Annual visits and Branch Audits, they went well but Branches still did not have all the information available we requested. We have responded to the questions (mainly of missing information) on these reviews from Command Officers this Month. The use of unlicensed draws etc. has come up again and I have been asked to remind everyone of the blanket license to make them legal. We are also being challenge about not receiving audited lottery statements from every Branch. Some have since complied well others have not and Ontario Command will deal with these Branches as per our agreement with the Lotteries Commission.  

2.      Branch regulations, to date we have 4 Branches that have had them accepted. Two Branches have theirs in for approval and the last Branch will submit in May after their General meeting. Please forward a copy to me once Command approves them so we have a copy on file for the Branch Elections. Then I can also file a copy with District.

3.      B6 Zone directory updates , any changes in your executive including people added please send Jane and myself the names, addresses, phone numbers and E-Mail info so we can update the directory. If you see any mistakes also let me know.

4.       I have requested a Presidents report every quarter for the last 2 years, (Which should include a L.A.       update as well) prior to District Council and Convention meetings. I require this to give a meaningful report on our Zones activities. We are going to carry on with the practice of reading out the names of Veterans who passed away between District Conventions. The dates for these where in the last meeting minutes that is Dec., March, June and Sept. The next reports including the names of Veterans that have passed away since the September meeting are passed due. The response this time for the Convention is terrible, as did not hear from 5 Branches in time to include them in my report and if I do not have the manes of your Veterans who have passed since last September then I cannot honor them at this Convention.

5.      Next month will be the Zone Election for our Zone Commander position, so please make sure your Executive attend as the District Commander and Deputy Commanders will be here to run the election.

6.      April 5-7 in Simcoe is the District Convention at which we ELECT OUR NEW District Executive so again get you max number of votes out. The number of voting delegates each branch is allowed is the same as at the Provincial Convention (which is in May at Kingston). Also make sure you submit the list of attending Delegates to the Provincial Convention or proxies if your Brach does not have enough delegates attending.

POPPY

Comrade Robert Watson thanked all volunteers for the hard work done during and after Poppy time. All Zone B Poppy Reports were submitted to District Poppy Chari.

Comrade John Mattocks has agreed to be co-chair of Zone Level.

Donation lists have been compiled for each Branch which gives everyone a chance to see where Poppy money is being spent.

MEMBERSHIP

Comrade Joyce Brown urged the Branch membership committees to keep up their remittances to Command. Dominion Command will be issuing reminder letters to members so it is vital that you are up to date—People do not like to get a letter when they have already paid!!

Please keep your Last Post notices up to date as well—so the magazine will be stopped.

Comrade Jackie Ralston stated that the budget for Youth Education is usually $2400.00 but $1800.00 was spent and she felt all that was needed this year.
