ZONE B MEETING MINUTES
A Zone Meeting was held on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Branch 622, Stoney Creek. The Opening Ceremonies were conducted by the Branch President, Comrade Joyce Brown.
The Meeting opened at 7:40p.m.
The Roll was called. All Branches were present with the exception of Branch 315/
MOTION to deviate from the agenda was accepted.
MINUTES
The Minutes were adopted as circulated.
CORRESPONDENCE
New guidelines for Honours and Awards were received.
Per capita raise is $2.81. Branches will have to decide how to deal with this.
ZONE COMMANDER’S REPORT
First of all I would like to welcome the new Comrades on the Branch Executives and secondly welcome back those that stayed on, please encourage your whole Executive to attend Zone Council meetings as they meet the rest of the team and can learn from each other.
We are getting ready to start our Annual visits and Branch Audits, I will be handing each President a copy of the audit so they can ensure the data required is available when we arrive as most are not prepared.
The Poppy Seminar was attended by all but one Branch and went very well. We reviewed the boundaries again with each Branch and all seems good. We also discussed the dates for LCBO and the Beer Stores and felt it would be better to approach the manager of each in your area and see if you can canvass the 1st week instead of Nov.2 and 3.
I am requesting a Presidents report every quarter for the next 2 years, (Which should include a L.A. update as well) prior to District Council and Convention meetings. I require this to give a meaningful report on our Zones activities. We are also going to carry on with the practice of reading out names of Veterans who passing away between District Conventions. The dates for these where in the last meeting minutes that is Dec., March, June and Sept. So please prepare it for me by Dec15 for my next report. The response this time was terrible as did not hear from 5 Branches in time to include them in my report.
Branch Executive should be looking at members worthy of Life Membership, MSM and Palm Awards early so the paper work can be processed. Please go on line each time and ensure you use the current form. We have 7 submissions again this year so far.
Branch regulations have been reviewed and memos from Brain have been sent to all Branches in our Zone with requests for changes. To date only 1 Branch has redone the Regulation Forms and had them accepted, Branch 315. There are new forms coming out at the end of the month so if yours are not already submitted please use the new form. Please let me know the status at your Branch and forward a copy to me so we have them on file for the Branch Elections.
The Zone Commanders workshop this year is on the Branch regulations and the new form is suppose to be easier to understand and complete so we will review it at our November Council meeting.
I will be attending the Provincial Executive Council meeting in early November so if you have any concerns you want me to address then forward them to me by E-Mail.
B6 Zone directory updates , any changes in your executive including people added please send Jane and myself the names, addresses, phone numbers and E-Mail info so we can update the directory. If you see any mistakes also let me know.
Our Financial Statement is ready for Audit so I would like Don to do that after the meeting for us. We are also going to have an audit of the Zone Sports financials done, as per the new sports manual procedure.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Comrade Jim Chesterfield reported (in Comrade George Chalmer’s absence):
The General Fund is at $4,202.29
The investment is $1,574.72
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
POPPY
Comrade Robert Watson was unable to attend the meeting but sent his report.
“We had a successful Poppy Seminar at Branch 163 in August. Each Branch but Branch 60 was well represented. The purpose of the seminar was to address local concerns and have a venue that was easily accessible to comrades in Zone B6. Greetings were sent to the meeting by Comrade Sharon Anderson, our District Poppy Chair and we had the pleasure of having our Zone Commander present.
Dates of the campaign, areas of responsibilities, location of each Branch’s area, completion of Poppy Trust Fund Reports and Bursary granting criteria were topics of discussion. Comrades were reminded to submit to their General Membership the Poppy Trust Fund Balance regularly. Special Use Forms are also important and must be submitted to the General Membership before being submitted to Provincial Command.
It appears from the level of questions and assistance given at the Seminar that we as a Zone are prepared for a successful Poppy Campaign.
Please let your membership know that I am looking for a Vice Chair in Zone Poppy. I’d like the company.”
MEMBERSHIP
Comrade Joyce Brown stated that the Early Bird Campaign has started as of September 1st. Branches should be aware that the per capita tax has changed. When sending back your remittance it should be with the new amount.
All branch numbers are down for membership. We all have to start making our Branches and the Legion the place to be. Get the word out of what we do or can do for the community.

I also looked at potential changes to the Zone B6 web site and they include:
Add page to publicize Legion Training Events which are very helpful to those Branch Executive members that (a) are aware of them, and (b) actually attend them.
Built a page on the Zone web site listing events taking place at Zone member Branches 36, 58, 60, 163 for July and August. Please visit this page and forward any events taking place at your branch so that they can be added to this page, as it is sadly out of date at this time. A link exists on the Branch 36 website so that anyone viewing our web page is made aware of the events and can attend them(fish frys, etc.).

SENIORS SERVICE
No report.
SERGEANT @ ARMS
In Comrade Bill Eisan’s absence it was noted that 31 members attended.
SPORTS
Comrade Gary Spears noted that summer is always slow for sports.
Zone dates have just now been set at the Zone must wait for District and Provincial to set their dates.
Comrade Spears has notified all Branches holding events through the sports officers.
There is a District sports meeting October 3. After that Comrade Gary will hold a zone meeting to acquaint them with the calendar for 2013.
YOUTH EDUCATION
Comrade Jackie Ralston stated that only 1st place winners advance to Zone.
All areas of the application must be filled out. Parents consent forms must be signed.
Paper clips only (no tape) are to be used to attach the submissions. The bristelboard must be flat—not rolled up.
A new category is being tried at the senior level. The category is “computer generated” posters. At the present time they will only advance to the District Level.
LA. REPORT
Comrade Jackie Ralston is making her Branch L.A. visits now. There will be a Zone L.A. meeting on October 14 at Waterdown.
WAYS AND MEANS
Comrade Wilma Becker will forgive me (I hope) as I do not have her figures for the Meeting in May.
