A Zone Meeting was held on Monday, May 28, 2012.

The Meeting opened at 7:35p.m. at Branch 551 Waterdown.

The Roll was called. All Branches except 315  were represented.

MOTION to deviate from the Agenda was passed.

MINUTES:

The Minutes were adopted as circulated by Comrade Secretary, Jane Richardson.

CORRESPONDENCE

There is a specific procedure for MOTION OF AMENDMENT TO BRANCH REGULATIONS.

If you have questions about the procedure you may ask the Zone Commander or the Secretary. Ontario Command is also very good at answering these questions.

ZONE COMMANDERS REPORT

Comrade Zone Commander Jim Chesterfield noted:

1.      Please send electronically to Jane and myself the new executives for you branch including addresses, E-Mail info and phone numbers. We require this info for sending the minutes out to all those who have E-Mail.

2.      With Elections over we have to ensure our new members understand their role and receive the proper training to perform those duties..

3.      We are hosting the District Track and Field at Mohawk Sports Park and have been asked to prepare 60 box lunches for Judges, Officials and Trainers, well ask provide sandwiches and beverages for the participants . Branch 58 has again agreed to do the Box lunches and Jim Byron from Branch 36 is coordinating the Color Parties. The date is June 23 and it starts at 8:00 am.

4.      I am requesting a Presidents report every quarter for the next 2 years, (Which should include a L.A. update as well) prior to District Council and Convention meetings. I require this to give a meaningful report on our Zones activities. We are also going to carry on with the practice of reading out names of Veterans who passing away between District Conventions. The dates for these where in the last meeting minutes that is Dec., March, June and Sept. So please prepare it for me by June 20^th .

5.      Branch Executive should be looking at members worthy of Life Membership, MSM and Palm Awards early so the paper work can be processed. Please go on line each time and ensure you use the current form. We only had 7 submission this year.

6.      Branch regulations have been reviewed and memos from Brain have been sent to all Branches in our Zone with requests for changes. To date we know of 2 Branches that have completed new Regulation Forms and submitted them. Please let me know the status at your Branch and forward a copy to me so we have them on file for the Branch Elections.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Comrade George Chalmers was absent. Comrade Zone Commander Jim Chesterfield has been handling the books and had nothing new to report.

POPPY

Comrade Robert Watson brought a display case from Branch 58 showing the work Poppy does which is very “eye=catching” and good advertizing.

Cards and /or a plant etc. can be very comforting for a veteran. This practice can be applied in each community.

MEMBERSHIP

Comrade Joyce Brown that you must keep up remittals to Ottawa and not allow the Branch to fall behind.

PRO

Comrade Peter Whittaker stated that he is creating an Events page on the web site. More news about the web site to follow in September.

SENIORS

Comrade Bill Eisan stated that a family was helped by the VAC.

SERGEANT @ ARMS

22 are in attendance.

SPORTS

Comrade Garry Spears reported that although there was an increase in entry fees at Provincial and District level there is no reason to raise our entry fees. The sports committee has made a donation of $1,000. 00  to the Zone.

TRAINING AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Comrade John Mattocks was absent.

YOUTH EDUCATION

Comrade Jackie Ralston had no report.

L.A. REPORT

Comrade Jackie Ralston stated that all L.A. elections have been completed.

WAYS AND MEANS

Comrade Wilma Becker had no report as she was absent from the March Meeting.
