ZONE B MEETING MINUTES

A Zone Meeting was held on Monday, November 28 at Branch 60.

 

The Meeting was opened at 7:45p.m by Comrade Branch President, Matt MacPherson.

 

Roll call was taken. 36 members attended the Meeting.

 

MOTION to deviate from the Agenda was passed.

 

A presentation by the owners of LiveWell Home Health Care Inc. was very informative. A brochure is available for anyone who wishes it.

MOTION: by Comrade John Mattocks, seconded by Comrade Robert Watson, that the Minutes be accepted as circulated. Carried.

 

 

CORRESPONDENCE

None.  

 

 

ZONE COMMANDERS REPORT

 

1.      It was good to get the zone minutes out within a week after the meeting and I would like to thank Jane for the effort, keep up the good work.

 

2.       Please send electronically to Jane and myself the new executives for you branch including addresses, E-Mail info and phone numbers. We require this info for sending the minutes out to all those who have E-Mail.

 

3.      Let’s make sure we have a good attendance at the Feb executive training session on Feb. the 4th in Waterdown . We will send out a reminder to all the Executives, that we have E-Mail addresses for, in January. It is good for everyone of them to attend even those that feel they know it all or have been involved for years. Let’s show them Zone B-6 cares.

 

4.      We are hosting the District Council Meeting Jan. 6 and 7 at Br36 Dundas and the District Convention April 13,14 and 15 at Br58 Hamilton so make sure you check with the Branch Presidents to see if they can use your help.

 

5.      I am requesting a Presidents report every quarter for the next 2 years, (Which should include a L.A. update as well) prior to District Council and Convention meetings. I require this to give a meaningful report on our Zones activities. We are also going to carry on with the practice of reading out names of Veterans who passing away between District Conventions. The dates for these where in the last meeting minutes that is Dec., March, June and Sept.

 

6.      Branch Executive should be looking at members worthy of Life Membership, MSM and Palm Awards early so the paper work can be processed. Please go on line each time and ensure you use the current form.

 

7.      We have finished our annual reviews and would any Presidents that have not signed theirs please do so after the meeting and I will get them copied for each of you and then forward them to command.

 

8.      Branch regulations are being reviewed and ours is in process now some Branches already have them back so please review and resubmit if required ASAP.

 

9.      PIB insurance covers bonding of employees but it is the Branches responsibility to ensure they are bondable.

 

 

TREASURER’S REPORT

 

The closing balance as of November 21, 2011 is $3,623.07.

In the next ¾ weeks a notice of assessment will be mailed to all Branches in the Zone for Youth Education.

Our GIC matured on October 28. Its value at maturity is $1,574.72. Comrade George Chalmers recommended that it be rolled over at the same rate.

Comments from the floor—It was noted that there was not enough advance warning to shop around for better rates. In future there must be discussion a couple of months in advance.

 

 

POPPY

 

Comrade Robert Watson has completed his inspection of the Branch Poppy Trust Funds. All Branch status reports have been submitted to both District and Provincial Command. The promptness of these reports pleased the District Poppy Chair.

It is recommended that the membership of each Branch should be informed each month about the status of the Poppy Fund. This can be accomplished by posting the information on the Poppy Bulletin Board.

Included in his report Comrade Watson listed all the beneficiaries of Poppy money in the Zone. It is available for any member by contacting Comrade Robert.

 

 

MEMBERSHIP

 

Comrade Joyce Brown noted that she is still learning the position.

She warned Branch Membership Chairmen to keep up with the per capita tax.

She recommended that Branch members be given gentle reminders to pay their renewal dues.

 

 

PRO

 

Comrade Peter Whittaker stated that he has started the creation of a Zone website. We look forward to this new site.

 

 

SENIORS

 

Comrade Bill Eisan had no report.

 

 

SERGEANT @ ARMS

 

Comrade Bill Eisan stated that a seminar was held in Brantford, Branch 90. 23 attended.

There was information about the following topics:

Homeless Veterans

Parkwood Hospital

Last Post Fund & the Benevolent Fund.

 

 

SPORTS

 

Comrade Garry Speers has distributed the schedule for Zone Sports. He drew attention to the 3 sporting events in January which take place before we meet again.

 

 

TRAINING AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

 

Comrade John Mattocks noted that he has held 1 training session for Foodhandlers. 10 attended. He hopes to hold further sessions.

 

 

YOUTH EDUCATION

 

Comrade Richardson reported (for Comrade Jackie Ralston) that the Poster and Literary entrees will be judged and sent to District. Results will not be available until the end of February

Public Speaking will be held in March. Please encourage all Branches to participate. The Provincial Public Speaking will be in Niagara Falls this year. We have been asked to contribute to the goodie bags for the participants.

 

L.A. REPORT

 

Comrade Richardson reported (in Comrade Ralston’s absence) that the annual visits of the Branch Auxiliaries are in progress. Branches are reminded that according to the Bylaws  there should be two joint meetings of the Branch and the Ladies Auxiliary executives each year.

Comrade Wilma Becker stated that the Bar and the Draw at Branch 58 was $92.00

GENERAL AND NEW BUSINESS

 

 

Comrade John Murphy stated that all Branches must give Comrade President Jeanette Scott of Branch 58 all the support she needs to hold a successful District Convention.

 

The Branch needs help with parking registration and other aids.

 

The complaint procedure was discussed. The complaint must be properly laid and procedure must be followed. Mediation is always encouraged. Ontario Command spends much time solving problems that could have been avoided if procedure had been followed.

 

 

The Meeting ended at 9:30p.m.

 

The next Meeting will be BRANCH 163 ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27 AT 7:30P.M.
